One of Nigeria’s most renowned and credited textile artists Nike Davies-Okundaye of Nike Art Gallery is challenging the notion that women are the weaker sex.
Nike who turns 63 on Sunday 11th May 2014, said this in a recent interview with Punch Newspapers.
On devoting her time to seeking empowerment for the women folk, especially through arts, she says “I am always challenged by the notion that women are the weaker sex and so they should be treated as second class citizens. This is negative thinking. I want to challenge our women to rise up and prove themselves. I want them to showcase their talents and prove that a woman must not necessarily depend on her husband to be successful in life.”
That’s one woman who says it as she means it.
